West African Kingdoms and Empires

This is a map of the Kingdoms and Empires of all of West Africa. We are only learning about West Africa so there are not as many Empires and Kingdoms. The largest West African kingdoms and empires are:
The Songhay Empire:
The Songhay Empire could be spelled two various ways; S-O-N-G-H-A-Y or it could be spelled S-O-N-G-H-A-I. The only difference is that there is an Y as the last letter instead of an I or the other way around. The Songhay Empire was the largest Islamic Empire from around the early 15th and the late 16th centuries. The capital of The Songhay Empire is Gao.
The Kingdom of Ghana:
Ghana is officially known as the Republic of Ghana. The word Ghana means; “Warrior King.” The motto of Ghana is “Freedom and Justice." The official languages that are spoken in Ghana are Akan and Twi. The capital of Ghana is Accra.
The Mali Empire:
The motto of The Mali Empire is "One people, one goal, one faith." The capital is Bamoko which is also the largest city. The official language of The Mali Empire is French. They got their independence from France on June 20, 1960.
